Life in the Amazon and other tales
Sorry for not many updates the past week or so. I was sick with something called Giardia (which you can look up if your interested
).
Please be praying for Pastor William. He has something in his leg called thrombosis. It’s a certain kind of blood clot that could easilly move to another part of his body, which is very dangerous. Because of this, we haven’t been able to do as much as we had hoped with them, yet we still have been able to help. I know Pastor William, his family, and everyone here appreciate your prayers.
MaryBeth, Chris, and I have been able to help somewhat with the small school at the Campemento where we are staying. The other day I was able to do some magic tricks for the kids, and they loved it. I’ve also found that you can always get kids addicted with a game a blob tag! (Which is a game where someone is it, and each person they tag joins their “blob” until there is only one person left).
The other day, I was able to help Pastor William survey the GPS coordinates for the property where they hope to build a training center for Missionaries and Pastors in the region. I had never done anything like that, but since my phone has a GPS, and can also get rough estimates of altitude, it was very helpful for Pastor and their ministry! It’s normally very expensive to get even basic infomation like this.
There is no kind of formal educational location for Pastors and Missionaries from and in the Region to learn and grow in their faith. There is much heart and love for Christ and His work here, but not many ways to build onto that. Because of this, Pastor wants to make this center into a inter-denomination center that with help mature, strengthen, and unify the church in the region. Sadly, Pastor just found out that he may lose the property if he does not have some kind of building on it within 90 days. He needs to get some kind of structure on it within that time. and he has a 5 part plan to eventually build the whole center. The first part will cost about $2,500 or so. Please keep the center and the property in your prayers. (I have more specific information about the center and the plan if you’d like to learn more.)
Also, today we saw a friend we met earlier in the trip called Oscar. He and is family are not Christians, and his mother has a very bad form of cancer and is currently in Lima. They have started to come to church and talk to pastor looking for hope, so please pray that they come to know the love and Gospel of Christ. Also, Oscar is interested in magic, so I’m hoping that with some mutual interests, even though there is a language barrier (he does speak some english), that I may be able to present Oscar with the Gospel.
You can’t always plan things perfectly and expect them to come out like you thought, and ministry here that is even more true! Please keep everyone here in your prayers, as we move into the 4th week of our trip.
God bless!
Josh
