According to Rob Bell, “if what Jesus does is get people somewhere else—then the central message of the Christian faith has very little to do with this life other than getting you what you need for the next one…If you truly believed that, and you were surrounded by Christians who believed that, then you wouldn’t have much motivation to do anything about the present suffering in the world, because you would believe you were going to leave someday and go somewhere else to be with Jesus.”

But is this true?

In 1 John 4:8 a very remarkable statement is made. “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.“ Did you catch that? John the Apostle said, “God is love.” Later in the same section, John tells us the same thing, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. “Of all the billions of people who have ever lived, will only a select number “make it to a better place and every single other person suffer in torment and punishment forever? …Can God do this, or even allow this, and still claim to be a loving God?” asks Rob Bell. Is this true? Can God be loving and all powerful if people are suffering?
